About
The roofers Virginia has trusted for 20 years.
United Signature Lighting is a division of United Exteriors. The people on your roof in December are the same certified crews on Virginia roofs all year.
Heritage
Family-owned in Virginia since 2005.
United Exteriors Roofing & Cladding Co. is a Virginia Class A contractor, the highest class the Commonwealth issues, and a GAF Master Elite roofer, a standing held by a small fraction of roofing companies in the country. For 20 years, United has replaced and repaired roofs, siding and gutters across Virginia, and now brings that work to Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover and Goochland.
Holiday lighting is the natural extension of that work. Nobody knows your roof better than a roofer, and nobody is better equipped to be on it safely in December. Most holiday light installers are not licensed contractors at all.
The program behind the program
11 seasons of refinement.
Our lighting standards, materials and methods come from Pittsburgh Socialights, our partner and supplier, now in its 11th season with more than 500 installs a year, 85 percent of them returning homeowners, and nearly 200 five-star reviews. The country clubs and estates in our gallery are theirs. We bring that system to Richmond with United's roofers.
Your designer
Meet Billy Massie.
Billy is a local fireman and certified first responder. He is the one who comes to your home, walks the property with you, designs the lighting to your architecture and prices it on the spot. He is also the one who texts you when the crew is on the way.
Ask and he will do a complimentary home safety walk-through while he is there: smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, outdoor outlets and extension cords, dryer vent, the things a first responder notices and most of us never do. No charge, no catch.
Standards
How we work on your home.
- Roof-safe, always
- No walking on slate or metal. No walking the peaks. Cougar Paw footwear on shingles. Clips on gutters and shingle edges, never nails or staples.
- One clean power run
- We test every outlet, plan the run from a single circuit where we can, and hide the cords where no one from the street will see them.
- Mapped and labeled
- Every home gets a lighting map on install day. Every line is labeled, so years 2 and 3 go up exactly right.
- A single point of contact
- A Team Leader speaks with you on install day. The crew does the work. You never have to explain your home twice.
- Test as we go
- Nothing is finished until it has been lit, checked from the street and swept behind.
- Support through Christmas Day
- A support crew runs through the season. Problems are fixed, not scheduled.

Giving back
Joy Homes.
Each season we light a few homes at no charge for Richmond families who are carrying more than their share: a long hospital stay, a deployment, a hard year. Pittsburgh Socialights lit 18 such homes in 2025. If you know a family, tell Billy. Nominations are quiet and the lights are not.
